VARIETIES OF THE GENRE PORTRAIT

Portrait (derived from FR. words portrait) – this artistic image of the human with transfer his domestic world.
In the portrait, a person can be depicted chest-high, waist-high, hip-high, knee-high, full-length.
The portrait can be a different turn of the head: full-face, a quarter turn to the right or left, half-turn, three-quarters, in profile.
Portrait format can be different: vertical rectangular, horizontal rectangular, square, oval or round.
The portrait is divided by size: portrait miniature, easel portrait (painting, drawing, sculpture), monumental portrait (monument, fresco, mosaic).
The portrait is divided according to the method of execution: oil, pencil, pastel, watercolor, dry brush, engraved, miniature, photographic, etc.
The portrait can be painted in different styles: academism, realism, impressionism, expressionism, art Nouveau, abstractionism, surrealism, cubism, pop art, etc.THERE ARE DIFFERENT CLASSIFICATIONS OF PORTRAIT
Self-portrait – graphic, picturesque or sculptural image of the artist, made by himself with the help of a mirror or a system of mirrors.
Allegorical portrait-a kind of costumed portrait in which the image portrayed is presented in the form of allegory.
Military portrait-a kind of ceremonial portrait-a portrait in the image of the commander.

Intimate portrait-a chamber portrait with a neutral background, expressing a trusting relationship between the artist and the person portrayed.

Historical portrait
Historical portrait-a portrait of a historical figure.

To order a miniature portrait of the
Chamber portrait-a portrait using a waist, chest or shoulder image of a person. Usually in a chamber portrait the figure is given on a neutral background.

Caricature
Caricature- (derived from ital.caricare-exaggerate) – satirical or humorous portrait.

Colossal portrait-portrait huge sizes (typically in sculpture).

Equestrian portrait-a kind of ceremonial portrait.
A costumed portrait is a portrait in which a person is represented as an allegorical, mythological, historical, theatrical or literary character. Usually the names of such portraits include the words ” in the form of “or”in the image.”
Coronation portrait-a solemn image of the monarch on the day of accession to the throne, in coronation regalia, usually full-length.
Churchwarden portrait-a kind of religious portrait in which the person who made the donation was depicted in the picture.
Churchwarden (from Greek. κτήτωρ-owner, founder, Creator) – a person who has allocated funds for the construction or repair of an Orthodox Church or monastery, or for its decoration with icons, frescoes, objects of decorative and applied art.

Small-format and miniature portraits-a portrait of a small format (up to 20 cm), usually watercolor, ink or draw graphics: etching, lithography, woodcut, etc.
A miniature portrait can be chamber or ceremonial, have a plot basis or not. As in a large portrait, the depicted face can be placed on a neutral, landscape background or in the interior. And although the miniature portrait is subject to the same basic laws of development and the same aesthetic canons as the entire portrait genre as a whole, but differs from it both in essence artistic solutions, and its area of application – miniature is always more intimate.

Mythological portrait
Mythological portrait-a kind of costumed portrait in which a person is represented as a mythological character.

 

To order a formal portrait
Ceremonial portrait, representative portrait-a portrait showing a person in full growth, on horseback, standing or sitting. Usually in a ceremonial portrait the figure is given on an architectural or landscape background.

Depending on the attributes of a formal portrait is: crown; throne; horse; military in General.
Hunting portrait adjacent to the front, but can be chamber.

The throne (from niderl. tronie-head, face) – a kind of Dutch portrait of the XVII century. It is a half-length or shoulder portrait, often depicting anonymous models with an unusual facial expression or costume.
Soviet portrait-the image of a new man, the Builder of communism, the carrier of such qualities as collectivism, socialist humanism, internationalism, revolutionary determination.

Posthumous portrait
Posthumous portrait, retrospective portrait-a portrait made after the death of the people depicted on their lifetime images or completely composed by the author.

Throne portrait of Elizabeth
Throne portrait-a kind of ceremonial portrait-a solemn image of the monarch sitting on the throne.
